Eat to the Beat is one of the events I look forward to most every year. 60 talented female chefs from around Toronto treat guests to delectable sweet and savoury bites while wine and beer vendors keep glasses filled. This year’s event was in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and raised $260,000. The funds raised will be used for a variety of breast cancer care from research to direct patient support.

Established in 1986, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is a national, community-driven charity that has invested over $360 million in breast cancer research. Their goal begins with reducing the number of breast cancer diagnoses, then reducing the mortality rate for those who do develop the disease and improve their quality of life. Eat of the Beat raises money with food and a touch of sass. A wonderful tradition of the event are fun, food inspired corsets created and modelled by cancer survivors
From tacos to grilled cheese to madeleines, the variety and quality of food was amazing. Both rooms at Roy Thomson hall were filled to the brim with stalls and guests shuffled from one to the next, munching away. A few of my favourite bites were:
- Adobo Pulled Pork Buns – The Drake Hotel, Alexandra Feswick
- Carrot and Ginger Soup – Elle Cuisine, Lauren Mozer
- Madeleines – Kyla Kennaley
- Roast Breast of Duck on Crispy Polenta – Mildred’s Temple Kitchen, Donna Dooher
- Mee Ka Ti – Pai Northern Thai Kitchen, Nuit Regular
- Tuna Tartare Wonton Tacos – Park Hyatt Hotel, Joan Monfaredi
- Lobster Grilled Cheese – Emma’s Eatery, Emma Beqaj
- Savoury Brown Butter Glazed Donut – The Rolling Pin, Vanessa Baudanza & Isabelle Loiacono
Aside from food, Eat to the Beat had an incredible Silent Auction featuring prizes from cookbook packages to a New York weekend getaway. As always, it was an honour to attend this year’s event and be apart of a fun, delicious evening, raising money for a great cause.
